Dear Daughter

Dear Daughter,

Do you know how proud of you I am?

I try to tell you as often as I can.

You’re too humble and insist I stop.

I’d like to shout your honors from the hill tops.

I delighted in all your firsts:

steps, words, smiles, life’s thirsts.

I cheered at your concerts.

We rewarded you with desserts

I look back with boast;

looking onward to all the toasts.

All the heartaches broke me too.

But I had confidence you’d make it through.

Do you understand how proud of you I am ?

I will never stop; no way my little lamb.

  1. What a beautiful tribute to your daughter! I love the repetition and importance of the phrase, “how proud of you I am?” Kudos to you for following a rhyming pattern that was clear in its intention. Thank you for sharing.

  2. What a lovely way to honor your daughter and how you feel about her. In particular, I love the lines, “Do you understand how proud of you I am ? I will never stop; no way my little lamb.” As I grow older, I realize more and more that my parents, although I’m an adult will always see me as their little lamb. I do hope you share this poem with your daughter, even though she might want you to stop bragging. She’s a lucky one to have such a lovely poem to share your feelings about her.
